  17. <p>    Not since Walter O'Malley kidnapped the Brooklyn Dodgers
  18. have New York City baseball fans loved to hate anyone as
  19. intensely as Yankee owner GEORGE STEINBRENNER. But two years
  20. after Steinbrenner's links to a gambler led to his banishment
  21. from team operations, baseball commissioner Fay Vincent was
  22. about to lift the ban. Now Vincent is investigating claims that
  23. Steinbrenner secretly maintained involvement with the Bronx
  24. Bombers. Steinbrenner, who denies all, faces the possibility of
  25. permanent exile from the House That Ruth Built.
